There’s no doubt that the Gold Coast is a premiere holiday destination for both local and international tourists. Every year, the region receives millions of visitors each year who are looking forward to spending time at the beach, visiting theme parks, sampling international cuisines, visiting the region’s impressive shopping districts, experiencing the magnificent sceneries and enjoying the luxurious Gold Coast accommodation on offer. In 2013, it seems that the Gold Coast visitor popularity continued to climb and with so much to offer, it’s no surprise. While the Tourism Queensland is yet to release official figures for 2014 until March, in a recent article, Martin Winter, Gold Coast Tourism Corporation chief executive, confirmed that the numbers were up “across the board.” This of course means better returns for Gold Coast accommodation and tourism businesses.
One of the reasons why the number is up is due to the local government’s initiative to ensure that the place isn’t just a piece of paradise but also a very safe destination. Queensland Attorney-General said: “The Govt’s criminal gang crackdown has contributed to Qld’s best tourism figures in years.”
Aside from that, good weather was also given partial credit for the upturn. For the whole Christmas period last year, the Gold Coast has enjoyed almost perfect weather. This is something that tourists from countries with unforgiving winter look forward to.
The Gold Coast’s effective marketing strategy is also considered one of the major reasons for record-breaking figures in the region’s tourism. Mr Winter confirmed that the unprecedented amount of marketing was able to tap interstate markets including Melbourne and Sydney. Aside from the $13 million local budget, last year, theme parks also launched $15 million marketing campaign to attract more tourists to the region. The marketing campaigns were successful in creating awareness for the Gold Coast and what it offers to tourists. The campaigns highlighted major theme parks and vast array of attractions that any type of tourist would surely enjoy.
The impact of the Australian Dollar also played a crucial role in reaching record-breaking numbers. Because of this, the traditional family market who used to take their kids to Phuket or Bali, visited the Gold Coast instead because doing so would mean getting incredibly great value for their money. An Australian holiday is now affordable, and with the Gold Coast being one of the top destinations, it’s no surprise its popularity has grown.
Tourists can enjoy great deals on attractions, dining and even their Gold Coast accommodation! At Gold Coast Holiday Stays, families can book at 2 bedroom apartment at Q1 Resort, arguably the most famous accommodation in Queensland for as little as $180 per night, now that’s a bargain!
Forecasts: Due to the fact that the local government is spending good money to promote the Gold Coast, it is expected that the number of tourists will significantly increase every year for the next 15 years. I wouldn’t be surprise if the numbers for this year will again, be record-breaking.
